An FSM’s Business Challenges

Employee in the waste management industry using a software application

With the advent of intuitive technology in the 21st century, everyone wants to enjoy the latest applications without wasting time trying to decrypt how-to-use guides or straining their already busy minds. The same is true for surfing websites or mobile applications, where the faster and more efficiently the website or mobile application reacts, the better the appraisals from users.

These idiosyncrasies were noted by us at Custella, a Software as a Service (SaaS) Field Workforce Management (FSM) and Transport Management (TMS) application. Custella was built to simplify important aspects of managing field sales & service teams as well as transport management for 1PL and 3PL logistics setups among others. It is designed to optimize the performance of an organization’s mobile workforce by automating information flow and providing real-time visibility of people and tasks. Custella focuses on multi-level synergy rather than individual optimization; bringing together improved collaboration among team members in the office with their agents in the field. Custella has helped customers transform from paper-based, manual and rigid systems to automation and digitization across some of the following processes:

Happy employee

Custella has in recent times increasingly been completing the missing puzzle among our customers who have had a CRM, ERP, and or case management software but needed a reliable and robust FSM or TMS to address the gap in their operations:

This level of online planning, processing, and communication required a dependable interface to improve the UI/UX experience particularly in easing the adoption of users. Enter Bryntum.

Why Custella Chose Bryntum

Custella was looking for a way to display the timeline of a vehicle’s journey in its TMS Planning Hub. This visualization shows planners and managers a detailed breakdown in columns, captured from drivers and vehicles operating out in the field.

Rather than build the UI from scratch, Custella picked Bryntum’s Scheduler Component which straight out of the box was able to display a summary of vehicle journeys in a timeline view.

Business profits increasing

Bryntum’s Scheduler displayed the start and end of each vehicle’s journey, along with statistics on distance traveled, number of pick-ups/drop-offs, the weight, and the utilization of the vehicle’s available capacity in terms of space.

For Custella’s Field Service Management, Bryntum Scheduler provided a simple plugin that with a few lines of code installed a dashboard that allowed a manager to track their field agent’s tasks for the day. The dashboard came with a gallery of event styles to choose from, giving Custella the flexibility to pick the design that closely matched its requirements, and with a few additional tweaks to customize, it was ready for business.

“The plugins built by Bryntum deliver an enterprise-level application experience, providing a higher level of confidence for our clients, especially those in the B2B space.”

Hari Prashanth

Product Director - Custella

Custella was built on Angular, which Bryntum works well with. Without the need to build a custom interface from scratch, the Custella team saved a lot of time, resources, and manpower. In addition, Bryntum’s customer support team aided Custella as a first-time customer with implementation and customization requests, with quick response times and regular updates and bug fixes.

Some of the key features of Bryntum that stood out for Custella’s end users were:

  1. Configurable: Being able to restrict (= false) features on and off as needed

  2. Support for custom time indicators: Such as showing a red line for the current time [timeRangesFeature]

  3. Themable: Change of theme on different screens - made it possible to customize and match the Custella’s existing UI

  4. Extensive drag-drop support: The drag-drop feature in the scheduler is useful for planners to move around orders to re-order/re-assign/re-schedule them

  5. TreeGrid support: Grouping of users/vehicles into teams and assigning job orders & deliveries - shows combined timelines

The Results

Custella experienced a smooth transition to implementing Bryntum’s solutions with excellent support from the Bryntum team. “The outstanding tech support from Bryntum was critical during and after the development phase. It helped us deploy the solution with ease and focus on making the most out of the adjacent benefits,” explains Hari Prashanth.

“It was a smooth transition process to implement the Bryntum Scheduler. And this was key to giving us and our end users confidence”, concludes Hari Prashanth.
