Is data on a cloud safe?

Why switching to a cloud platform is safer than storing data on your device.

Data secured online

Photography has been my passion since childhood. I was always that person in the family who was responsible for taking the negatives from photographers and archiving them in the family albums. As time passed by, I started photography as a hobby. In this era of vlogs, stories, and reels I’m the one who always takes the best pictures of friends and makes travel videos after a trip. But this one time, I had all the photos from the trip and didn’t get time to back them up on my computer or a portable hard drive. Like a bolt from the blue, the software on my phone crashed, and I lost all my valuable photos which have been there for years. I still can’t forget the trauma of losing them all.

Emerging Trends of Data Storage

According to Carnegie Mellon University's Bianca Schroeder and Garth Gibson's research, if you haven't already had a hard disc fail or become corrupted, resulting in the loss of valuable data, you will at some point in the future. So, my friend suggested I use a cloud data service where I will have access from anywhere and don’t have to worry about storage or loss.

Today, people are more likely to store their data in cloud storage. Storing data "in the cloud" eliminates all the issues associated with using local hard drives and moving data to fresh physical media. But is the data in the cloud safe? Recently this article about Malaysia’s national contact tracing app MySejahtera caught my attention. The data of this app belongs to the government but according to the article, there is a suspicion that the ownership has been transferred to third parties. People are assuming that their data won’t be safe anymore on cloud applications.

Switch to cloud

The number of companies switching to cloud storage is increasing by the day. However, many individuals and business owners who haven't made the switch are concerned about security. Custella is a software application that is designed for organizations to plan and manage a mobile workforce. The platform is a cloud-based mobile and web application hosted on world-renowned Oracle MySQL.

Here’s why businesses like Custella opts for a cloud-based architecture:

Building blocks of a SaaS

1. Don’t clutter your device:

If your data is stored in a cloud device, it won’t clutter the internal storage of your device. You don’t have to delete certain videos or files to store/record new data. Also, excess storage use is known to impact device performance.

2. Easy to use:

A cloud platform like Custella is user-friendly. Both your employees and clients can use it without any prior training or expertise.

3. Safe and secured:

Using the Custella mobile app, your employees can send secure messages to their managers in the office and send documents, photos, and customer digital signatures by uploading them to the cloud

4. Accessibility:

You can access your information from anywhere in real-time. All you need is an internet connection.

5. Transparency:

Your information in Custella is saved in a secure, encrypted server which is unique to each organization. You don’t have to worry about any form of privacy breaches or GDPR compliance issues thanks to business standardizations being met.

Cloud storage was built with data security in mind from the start. Your files are secured and constantly monitored when you save data in the cloud to defend against cybersecurity attacks. So why not make the smart choice and switch to a safer platform?
